I’m the Professor. This week, once again, I’ve picked out just the parts of the pre-release update that regular players will care about.
📌 Key points
- Characters’ mouths move during voice chat
- A block above a crop resets its growth (watch your ceilings)
- Opening and closing doors breaks crops
- More realistic audio, like muffled sound inside walls
- Commands now autocomplete with the Tab key
Mouths move during voice chat
When you talk in voice chat, your character’s mouth now moves naturally. Before, talking made the eyebrows wiggle like crazy, which looked odd. That’s gone too, so it really feels like you’re having a conversation.
Farming changes (heads up!)
- If there’s a block directly above a growing crop, its growth resets due to lack of space. Watch out if your farm has a low ceiling
- Opening and closing doors now breaks crops. Be careful if you’ve put a door at your farm’s entrance
Audio system upgrade
With a technique called raycasting, sound now gets muffled when you’re inside a wall and echoes in caves, so what you hear changes realistically with your surroundings. This is only the first step, and it’s said to keep evolving from here.
Tab autocomplete for commands
The highlight of this update. When typing commands in chat, the Tab key now autocompletes suggestions. Suggestions pop up even partway through typing, which is far easier than typing everything out by hand like before.
Other changes
- You can now sit on the Royal Magic Couch
- Fixed sprinting and scrolling bugs on macOS
- For modders: the prefab spawner is temporarily back, even though it was slated for removal. It’s meant to give mod creators time to migrate, and it’s been well received in the international modding community
- Renames and bug fixes
If your farm has a ceiling or doors, take a moment to check that your crops haven’t vanished. And once you try Tab autocomplete, you’ll never want to go back.
