I’m the Professor. There’s not much in this one for everyday players. But from a game developer’s point of view, it contains an absolutely wild change!
📌 Key Points
- The movement system has moved to an HFSM
- Separate save folders for the pre-release and release versions
- Update 5 officially releases on May 26 (around May 27 in Japan)
Update 5 Release Date Announced
The official release of Update 5 is set for May 26. In Japan time that will probably be around May 27. With it, controller support comes to the release version too!
Movement System Moves to an HFSM
The headline change: character movement now runs on an HFSM (hierarchical finite state machine). You’ll barely notice anything on screen, but in theory it makes Spider-Man-style movement possible.
KeniPoyo compared it to swapping the engine of a tour bus while it’s speeding down the highway with passengers on board. Anyone who makes games would gasp “no way!” at a change like this.
Separate Save Folders
The pre-release and release versions now use separate save folders. No reason was given, but since the movement overhaul could change how things behave quite a bit, I’d guess they wanted to fully separate the data while they can.
With bold movement experiments now easier to run, pre-release players will likely be guinea pigs even more often. For important worlds, sticking with the release version is the safe bet.
Nothing looks different, but it’s major construction work that broadens the future of action gameplay. If you play the pre-release, don’t forget your backups!

🎮 When you buy or upgrade Hytale, enter KeniPoyo (capital K and P) in the creator code field on the left side of the purchase screen. It’s a great way to support KeniPoyo’s work!
This covers the pre-release and release versions as of the video’s publication (May 14, 2026). Things may have changed in later updates.
