The Professor
I’m the Professor. Some intriguing news just came in today. As the title says, it’s about “maybe getting Hytale for free.”
β¦Now, that doesn’t mean it’s free for everyone. More precisely, it’s this: “Cursebreaker Edition owners will be able to gift Hytale to their friends.” Let’s take a closer look.
The short version: Cursebreaker owners get one copy to give away per chapter
π Key points
- If you own the Cursebreaker Edition, you get one copy of the game for every Early Access chapter that releases
- The copies are the Standard Edition, meant as gifts for friends and family
- If six chapters come out before the full release (1.0), that works out to six copies in total
- The first chapter, “Chapter I: Out of the Breach,” is scheduled for around 11:00 PM JST on Monday, October 12 (10:00 AM ET)
In other words, “if one of your friends owns the Cursebreaker Edition, you might be able to get Hytale for free.”
Announced by Simon of Hypixel Studios
This was announced on X (formerly Twitter) by Simon of Hypixel Studios, the developer of Hytale, on October 10, 2026 (JST). Here’s the gist.
- For each Early Access chapter released, Cursebreaker Edition owners get one copy of the game to give away
- If six chapters ship before the full release, that’s six Standard Edition copies to hand out to friends and family
- Chapter 1, “OUT OF THE BREACH,” arrives October 12 at 10:00 AM (US Eastern Time)
The “six chapters” figure is just an example; it seems the actual number of chapters hasn’t been decided yet.
When does Chapter 1 release in Japan time?
π
October 12, 10:00 AM US Eastern Time = Monday, October 12, 11:00 PM JST
For players in Japan, that’s Monday night. Get ready for a late one!
What’s new in Chapter 1 is covered on the Chapter 1 feature page.
How good a deal is it? A rough calculation
Here are the edition prices (official store, in US dollars).
| Edition | Price | Copies to gift |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $19.99 | None |
| Supporter | $34.99 | None |
| Cursebreaker | $69.99 | One per chapter |
If six chapters come out, six Standard Edition copies ($19.99 each) add up to about $120 worth. That’s more than the Cursebreaker Edition itself costs. (The number of chapters isn’t decided yet, so this is purely an “if six come out” scenario.)
What we don’t know yet
All that’s been announced is that you’ll get these copies. The details haven’t come from the official side yet.
- How to send and receive the gifts (codes? sent through the launcher?)
- Whether players who upgrade to Cursebreaker later are eligible too
- Any deadline for handing them out
I’ll update this article once we learn more.
How to get the Cursebreaker Edition
If you already own the Standard or Supporter Edition, you can upgrade by paying the difference. Head to the “Shop” on the far right of the game’s home screen. For step-by-step instructions, see How to Buy in the Beginner’s Guide.
π‘ When you buy or upgrade, I’d be delighted if you entered KeniPoyo in the creator code field on the payment screen. The price stays the same, and part of it goes toward supporting KeniPoyo’s work.
Starting Hytale with friends
- New players should start with the Beginner’s Guide
- How to play together is covered in How to Play Multiplayer
- For Chapter 1’s new bosses and goblins, see the Chapter 1 feature
It may be called “free,” but someone still has to own the Cursebreaker Edition for it to work. Even so, it’ll definitely make it easier to invite friends. More Hytale pals is something I’m always happy to see!
Based on the announcement as of October 10, 2026. Details may change in the future.
