I’m the Professor. The Hardcore mode added in Part 9 has now expanded to four types. It’s a fresh set of self-imposed challenges you can pick to suit your playstyle.

Four Hardcore modes
You can choose them from the customization options when creating a world.
| Mode | Rule |
|---|---|
| Permadeath | Game over after 1 death |
| Three Strikes | Game over after 3 deaths |
| Nine Lives | Game over after 9 deaths shared by everyone |
| Soulbound | If anyone dies, everyone’s out |
Soulbound, where you share your lives with friends in multiplayer, looks like it’ll get pretty intense. It’d be perfect for a “stream until we die” challenge, too. For what happens when you die in Hardcore, see the Part 9 recap.
Search across all settings
You can now search through all the settings at once. That should go a long way toward solving the “where was that setting again?” problem.
Avatar improvements
Avatar customization got a little better, with tweaks like adjusted ear accessory positions.
With four types to choose from, you can find just the right level of tension whether you play solo or with friends. My recommendation is to try Three Strikes first.
