How to Spawn the Voidtaken Grizzly in Hytale: Find the Purple Pillar & Get the Hide for Rocket Boots and Glider

⚠️ Update (Oct 13): the Chapter 1 release changed the recipes! The Glider now needs two hides, and the Rocket Boots use Bang Sticks instead of Boom Powder. The table below shows the new recipes.

I’m the Professor. Today’s topic is the two gadgets everyone wants from the Goblin Tinkerer’s Workbench: the Rocket Boots and the Glider.

Rocket Boots give you a double jump, and the Glider lets you glide through the air. Both make exploring far easier. The catch: both need a Voidtaken Grizzly Hide, and this is where most players get stuck. You won’t just run into a Voidtaken Grizzly while wandering around.

So here is how to spawn the Voidtaken Grizzly, explained from both gameplay footage and the game data. (The video is in Japanese, but the steps below cover everything.)

After about 2 minutes, look through a Spyglass and slowly turn a full circle

Kill it for a guaranteed Hide

The Rocket Boots need one and the Glider needs two Voidtaken Grizzly Hide, so if you want both, you’ll be hunting the bear three times.

What you need

1. Spyglass (optional, but a huge help)

The Spyglass is crafted at the Goblin Tinkerer’s Workbench from Scraps ×25, Copper Ingot ×10 and Void Crystal Shards ×1. Its description says it lets you “pinpoint the location of a Voidtaken beast”, so it is literally a bear-finding tool.

You can still trigger the hunt without one if you happen to walk into the right spot, but searching a whole breach blind is painful. Craft one first.

2. Voidheart (required!)

Without a Voidheart, the bear will never appear. Void Fiends and large Void Crystals drop one guaranteed, so grab one before you go. Void Eyes can drop it too, but only about 5% of the time.

Step by step

Step 1: Enter a Goblin Breach

The Voidtaken Grizzly hunt only happens inside a Goblin Breach. Once you’re in, wait about 2 minutes. The timer at the top right (“until the Veil closes”) is how long the breach lasts, so don’t dawdle.

Step 2: Look through the Spyglass and turn a full circle

After 2 minutes, look through your Spyglass and slowly turn all the way around. When you face the right direction…

Step 3: Reach the spot — “Predator discovered”

Head for the pillar. When you get close, the screen shows “Predator discovered”. The hunt is now flagged.

Step 4: Offer the Voidheart at the trap

Look around and you’ll find a bear trap with paw prints around it. Walk up to it holding the Voidheart and offer it…

Here comes the bear, corrupted by the Void and out for blood!

Tips and warnings

⚠️ The purple pillar disappears after about 2 minutes!
It doesn’t stay up long. If you lose sight of it, don’t worry — the map marker stays, so follow the map.

⚠️ The trap can be hidden in grass or darkness
It may be buried in tall grass or too dark to see in the forest. Hold a torch and search calmly.

The bear’s location is random every time, and there is only one per breach
Even without a Spyglass, reaching the spot still triggers the hunt
Breaches are timed, so start the bear hunt as soon as you enter

The Professor’s notes (from the game data)

Digging into the game files turned up a few useful numbers:

The hunt site is placed roughly 160–256 blocks from the player, on grass or dirt
The Spyglass detects the site within a ~30° cone, up to 512 blocks away. That’s why a slow full turn matters
The purple pillar lasts about 120 seconds and is around 100 blocks tall, so it’s visible from far away
A discovered hunt site expires after about 30 minutes (the breach usually closes before that)
