I’m the Professor. On August 26, Hytale moves to Update 6! Update 5’s headline feature was controller support, but this time it’s a big one: three months of near-weekly smaller updates all rolled together at once.
📌 Key points
- Controller gyro aiming and zoom weapons
- Oceans and water look dramatically better
- Wizard towers now generate
- Four Hardcore modes
- Mod browser, 16-million-block copy and paste, and settings search
- The unthinkable: poop throwing got nerfed
Controls and combat
- Gyro aiming: tilt your controller to move the camera, making bows and guns feel intuitive to aim (Part 7)
- Bows can now break cobwebs and other soft objects
- For developers, a sniper rifle, a rifle with 3-step zoom, and a zoom bow were added (get them with /give; IDs are in the Part 7 article)
World
- Animal sounds added. Animals that used to be silent now make noise too
- Oceans and water got a major overhaul. Water visuals, transparency and light reflections look far nicer
- Wizard towers now generate in the world (Part 5)
Four Hardcore modes
You can set these from the customization options in the world creation menu. There are four: game over after 1 death, after 3 deaths, after 9 deaths shared by everyone, or everyone’s out if a single player dies. Dying puts you in spectator mode, but there’s a loophole with /spectate (Part 11 and Part 9).
UI and more
- Mod browser: find and download mods from inside the game. That said, mods sometimes don’t land in the right place and you may need to move the folder manually (Part 12)
- A new save format lets you copy and paste 16 million blocks at once
- Settings search
- Avatars: more variations for existing outfits, plus a cape only for players who registered for the one-time pass
For builders: the Trigger Volume Tool
The Trigger Volume Tool introduced in Update 5 got a huge upgrade. When a player enters a set area, you can open and close doors automatically, spawn enemies, lock doors until enemies are defeated, play music… the possibilities are endless. For anyone who wants to build places to play, like dungeons or puzzles, this is going to be a key tool.
And the worst update ever
Until now, Hytale let you throw poop to damage enemies. As of Update 6, you can’t anymore. KeniPoyo calls it “the worst update in Hytale history” (Part 10).
All parts of Update 6
- Part 1: Block palette presets
- Part 2: A bug-fix bonanza
- Parts 3 & 4: New color tools
- Part 5: Wizard towers
- Part 6: Cinematic camera
- Part 7: Gyro aiming
- Part 9: Hardcore mode
- Part 10: /prefabpreview
- Part 11: Four Hardcore modes
- Part 12: Mod browser
Three months of work stacked up into a big update for players and creators alike. The oceans are gorgeous now, so do take a moment to just sit back and enjoy the view.
